Steven K. Balman

Steven K. Balman graduated from Harvard College with honors in 1978 and from the University of Texas School of Law with honors in 1981.  He has practiced law in Tulsa since 1981, and served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Tulsa since 1991.

Mr. Balman practices primarily in the areas of business litigation, probate litigation, and civil appeals.  He is a member of the Tulsa County Bar Association, the Oklahoma Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.  He is a Master Emeritus of the
Hudson-Hall-Wheaton Chapter of the American Inns of Court.

Mr. Balman served as Editor-in Chief of the American Journal of Criminal Law in 1980-1981.  In addition, he has taught corporations, evidence, appellate advocacy, and pretrial practice at the University of Tulsa as an Adjunct Professor of Law.  Mr. Balman serves as an Adjunct Settlement Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma.  He has served as an Associate Bar Examiner of the Board of Bar Examiners of the State of Oklahoma, and as a Judge of the Lawyers’ Division of the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals.

Mr. Balman has received the Earl Sneed Award of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Golden Rule Award and the President’s Award of the Tulsa County Bar Association, the President’s Award of the Hudson-Hall-Wheaton Inn of Court, and the Outstanding Adjunct Professor of the Year Award of the University of Tulsa College of Law.  Mr. Balman is an elected member of the American Law Institute, and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.  Mr. Balman is a member of the Members’ Consultative Group for the Restatement (Third) of Trusts.

Mr. Balman is an Eagle Scout.  The “best job he ever had” was working as a Ranger at Philmont Scout Ranch.  He is a volunteer Scout leader with the Indian Nations Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
